Growing economies rely on petrochemical and chemical products to feed the raw material needs of a wide variety of industries.

Two broadly used basic petrochemicals are PE (polyethylene) and PP (polypropylene), both of which are derived from ethylene. Other fundamental materials produced by petrochemical and chemical plants include styrene monomer, LAB (Linear Alkyl Benzene), butadiene, VCM (Vinyl Chloride Monomer), PTA (Purified Terephthalic Acid) and Caprolactam.

The processes used to produce these materials require various types of process gas compressors.

Kobelco has accumulated in-depth knowledge and experience in applying all three types of process gas compressors (reciprocating, centrifugal and screw) for these applications.

For PE and PP processes, centrifugal compressors (single stage, barrel type) are primarily used. Screw compressors are utilized for booster and BOG (Boil Off Gas) services.

For styrene monomer, LAB and butadiene processes, oil-free screw compressors are used and VCM, PTA and caprolactam processes are typically served by integrally geared type centrifugal compressors (“Super Turbo”).

Kobelco reciprocating compressors are used for Etylene BOG (Boil Off Gas) service with low temperature gas, -100 °C (-150 °F).

Kobelco also provides screw compressors for the refrigeration systems in petrochemical and chemical applications.
