Natural gas is a more environmentally friendly alternative to oil and demand is escalating worldwide.

To economically transport natural gas over long distances, it must first be liquefied to LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) in the producing country before shipping to consuming countries. As a result, there are numerous natural gas liquefaction projects in producing countries and LNG receiving terminal projects in countries where LNG is consumed.

In order to liquefy natural gas, cryogenic technology is required. These processes are conducted in temperatures as low as -160 °C (-250 °F). This places additional demands on the compressors used to handle cryogenic gas.

Kobelco has the technical capability to excel in cryogenic applications. Our reciprocating and centrifugal compressors are used for BOG (Boil Off Gas) service. For liquefaction processes, Kobelco supplies integrally geared centrifugal regeneration compressors. Kobelco high-pressure reciprocating compressors are used for natural gas boosting in LNG receiving terminals.

Kobelco also has provided screw gas compressors for LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) service.
